Dr. Tommy King, president of William Carey University, introducing Geroldean McSwain Dyse, CEO of the Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc., before presenting her with The Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during one of the university’s four commencement ceremonies in Smith Auditorium.

A native of New Augusta, she was the second nurse ever hired by SeMRHI in 1980, and she rose through the ranks from licensed practical nurse and health educator to chief operating officer to CEO by 2011.

Set targets for success and keep shooting at them, state Rep. Mark Formby said Wednesday during  Pearl River Community College graduation exercises at the Forrest County Multi Purpose Center.

Formby, a former PRCC student, told the graduates and their families not to be discouraged when they fail to hit a target, using his own political losses as an example.

The Leaf Foundation announces the availability of applications for its official Miss America preliminary pageants, to be held at 7 p.m. on August 2, 2013 at The Historic Saenger Theater in Downtown Hattiesburg. This is the 10th anniversary of The Miss Leaf River Valley Pageant.

Hanna Moore of Richton, a senior elementary education major at William Carey University, was recently named a 2013 Outstanding Teacher Intern by the Mississippi Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. During a ceremony at the Mississippi Department of Education building in Jackson, she was honored alongside other outstanding teacher interns and met Interim State Superintendent of Education Dr. Lynn House.
