WCU hosts student art exhibit | Schools

William Carey University hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of the 2012 Student Art Exhibit in the Lucile Parker Gallery on April 12. The exhibit, which will hang until April 23, includes a variety of artwork including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, and graphic design by art students from both the Hattiesburg and Tradition campus. Tracy Williams, Chair of the Art Department, announced the winners of the juried art competition as chosen by Tommie Rodgers, artist and registrar for the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Laurel.
“Leslie” Lin, an international student from Linyi, China, was chosen as Best in Show. Nancy Barnard, a senior from Laurel, won first place in Painting, and Brendan Woods, a sophomore from Purvis, won first in Drawing. Ye Jin “Jane” Lee, a sophomore from Hattiesburg, won first in Photography, and Chantel Kennedy, a senior from Gulfport, won first in Graphics. Katy Scott, a senior from Hattiesburg, won first in the 3D category, and also in Design.
The juror also awarded Honorable Mention to Bethany Bell, a sophomore from Maribor, Slovenia; Megan Bourne, a sophomore from Columbia; Amber Holifield, a senior from Collins; Jane Lee, Katy Scott and Brendan Woods.
The public is invited to view the exhibit. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 1-4 p.m. or by appointment, (601) 318-6528.
